Bitcoin, Ethereum and other major cryptocurrencies are currently trading in the red. The global cryptocurrency market capitalisation is $1.29 trillion, down 8.21 percent from the previous day. Bitcoin, the world’s largest cryptocurrency, has seen a massive plunge, trading more than 9 percent lower on June 26.

Cryptocurrencies were trading stable on Friday with the value of all popular virtual coins on an upward trend. While the overall trend seems to be positive, some virtual coins remain in negative territory.

At 11:30 am(No need of time), Bitcoin was up trading at over $34,500, up nearly 5 per cent from its value a day ago. Its closest rival Ether was inching closer to $2,000, up 2.29 per cent. The biggest gainer on Friday was meme digital currency Dogecoin as it rose over 17 per cent.

 

3 Police seize $209 million in record cryptocurrency bust

Police in London have uncovered a massive stash of allegedly laundered money hidden inside a suspected criminal enterprise.

The Met’s Economic Crime Command seized £114 million ($A209 million) in digital currency after receiving a tip-off about the transfer of criminal assets.

The bust is the largest recorded in UK history, and is believed to be one of the biggest wins globally in the fight against money laundering via cryptocurrency.

Police are currently refusing to disclose the type of cryptocurrency that made up the nine-figure sum seized.

The world’s largest broker of fine art and jewelry, Sotheby’s, will accept cryptocurrency for the first time as payment for a rare diamond, which is expected to fetch up to $15 million at an auction in Hong Kong next month.

Traditional money is still acceptable but the successful bidder can also pay with ether or bitcoin, Sotheby’s said, adding that no other physical object of such high value has previously been available for sale using cryptocurrency.

The 101.38-carat pear-shaped flawless diamond, dubbed ‘The Key 10138’, is one of just ten diamonds of more than 100 carats ever to come to auction, only two of which were pear-shaped. Diamonds of such a form are among the most sought after.
